Young Ocean Explorers

Kia Ora everyone, today I have written something about saving plastic and how we could save plastic! This took me an hour to write and I had so much fun! I got inspiration from the site Young Ocean Explorers, Young Ocean Explorers make videos of how we should save the environment and how to save sea animals from plastic.

Plastic gets in the ocean all the time. Some plastic comes from boats but 80% of the time it comes from land. The rubbish from the land flies into the sea and sometimes gets into the ocean by drains. When the plastic is in the sea it sometimes looks like sea animals prey, so they eat it. When sea animals eat the plastic they think they're full but they are starving which makes them die. :(

Around the world we are making more than 300,000,000 tonnes of plastic per year and 8,000,000 gets dumped in the ocean. That´s  about one rubbish truck full with plastic getting dumped every minute. In 2050 that could be 4 rubbish trucks dumping rubbish every minute. Did you know that in the year 2050, scientists think that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea. Almost all plastics are made out of oil and cannot break down like food does in a compost bin. They just keep weighing down into smaller and smaller pieces.

Did you know that just with a bit of wind and water the plastic can lead its way to a drain. The plastic will go into the drain and soon will end up in the sea. Ways you can prevent plastic from getting into the ocean are. You could use less plastic, put your plastic in the rubbish once you finished using it and picking up more plastic from the ground. If every kid picked up at least one piece of plastic a day that would be 750,000 pieces of plastic being picked up.
